Obituary Preview: Brock Tumbleson, 67, Kewanee, died May 3, 2024. Born August 18, 1956, in Kewanee, son of Bill L. and Marlene (Rouse) Tumbleson. He grew up on the family farm in Neponset. He graduated with the Class of 1974 at Western High School. He attended Black Hawk East and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern Illinois University with a degree in Mortuary Science 1976. Brock started working with "Bud" Schueneman in 1974. Brock and Mark purchased the funeral home from "Bud" in 1997; he retired in 2017.

Brock married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Molly Madsen on August 28, 1976 in the historical Danish Lutheran Church in Sheffield. She survives along with their two sons and daughter. Nathaniel (Jodi) Tumbleson of Phoenix, AZ, Jacob Tumbleson, Kewanee, Maggie (Chad) Winter, Kewanee. Also surviving are seven grandchildren Lexi, Lucas, Myles, Grant, Elliana, Kyle, and Ally. One brother Brian (Cheri) Tumbleson of Mazon, two nieces Alaina (Christopher) Jackson, Ariane (Timothy) Misener, nephew Todd Morris, great nieces and a great nephew: Ashlin, Aubrie, Alise, Aurora, Annika, Jovie, Brilee, and Wade. Two uncles Raymond (Carol) Rouse of Bradford and Dick (Mary Jo) Rouse of Kewanee. Preceded in death by his parents Bill and Marlene Tumbleson and his in laws Gilbert and Betty Ann Madsen.

Brock was an Elder, Sunday School Teacher, Worship Leader, and Choir Director at First Congregational Church - SBC in Kewanee. Brock’s intense love of music lead him to a 55 year commitment and career of church music ministry in the greater Kewanee area. A highlight of his musical life was singing at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Brock was committed to a life of service to this community. He was twice past president of the Kewanee Kiwanis Club, past president of the Kewanee area United Way, past president of the Ambassadors Club, a member and past president of the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors, and a Member of the Kewanee Masonic Lodge #159 A.F. A.M. and Moline Consistory along with many other boards and committees dedicated to furthering the advancement of Kewanee and surrounding areas. In 2004, Brock was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year. Brock and Glen Schwarm were co-founders of the “More on 34” weekend that spans from Galesburg to Yorkville. Brock was always proud to be a member of the Kewanee Klassics along with Jim Blucker and Dave Sherrard. Together, over the years, they raised thousands of dollars for local charities, particularly the Salvation Army.

Brock enjoyed studying the Civil War, the Old West, Kewanee history, and family genealogy. He and his wife, Molly, enjoyed antiques and were successful antique dealers for decades. His love for Christmas was boundless. Brock, his family, and friends celebrated the Christmas season year in and year out by decorating either the family home, Furniture Country store windows, and eventually Northeast Park.

Brock loved God, his family, and his close friends.

Obituary Preview: Norma Shank, 93, of Kewanee, died Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Kewanee Care. Norma was born August 24, 1930, in Carroll, IA, the daughter of Otto and Ethel (Liehti) Bruggeman. She graduated from Arcadia Iowa High School.

Norma is survived by a son, Gary (Kathleen) Shank, San Jose, CA; a daughter, Kim (Doug) Anderson, White City, KS; a son-in-law, Mark Schmitt, Milwaukee, WI; four granddaughters, Laura Sandeep Poonen, Los Altos, CA, Colleen Shank, Portland, OR, Kari (Chip) Wagner, Olathe, KS, Diana (Alan) Zumbrunn, Junction City, KS; five grandsons, Daniel (Yesenia) Shank, San Jose, CA, Matthew (Annie) Kaiser, Neponset, IL, Alex Anderson, Manhattan, KS, Bradley (Ashley) Christman, Eudora, KS, Ryan (Lauren) Christman, Denver, CO; nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Campbell, Fort Dodge, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Vicki Lynn Schmitt; and two brothers, Larry Bruggeman and Merle Bruggeman.

Norma worked for Kroger’s as a cashier. She loved being outdoors, fishing and the Chicago Cubs.

Obituary Preview: Robert “Bob” E. Majeske, 80, of West Peoria, formerly of Kewanee, died Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Accolade Healthcare of Peoria. Bob was born May 1, 1943, in Kewanee, the son of Edward and Margaret (Kapacinskas) Majeske. Bob attended and graduated from Kewanee High School. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1965 from Bradley University. Bob attended the University of Iowa and obtained a Master of Arts in 1967 and a Master of Fine Arts in 1968.

Bob is survived by two daughters, Greta (Robert) Hill, Lacon, IL, Laura (Keith) Majeske, St. Charles, IL; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bob was an Associate Professor at Illinois Central College. He taught figure drawing and art fundamentals. He retired in 1999. Bob enjoyed reading, painting, and photography. Bob appreciated fine dining experiences and was a cigar aficionado and a connoisseur of fine whiskeys.

Obituary Preview: Michael “Mike” B. Frederick, 66, of Kewanee, died Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Mike was born April 27, 1957, in Darmstadt Germany, the son of Charles and Lore (Bröll) Frederick. He graduated from Tower Hill High School with the class of 1975. Mike obtained an associate degree in liberal studies from Black Hawk College in 1991.

Mike worked as a shop superintendent for All Service Contracting in Decatur, IL. Mike was a member of the Holy Trinity Parish Polish National Catholic Church, Kewanee. Mike was a jokester and loved telling jokes all over the world. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, woodworking and antiquing. Mike owned an antique shop in Elkhart, IL. He was an avid book reader. Mike loved children and made friends wherever he went. Anytime anyone needed anything he would drop everything to be there for them.

Obituary Preview: MaKenna A. Peed, 19, of Kewanee, died Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at her home. MaKenna was born December 16, 2004, in Peoria, the daughter of Luke Peed and Nicole Rodela. MaKenna graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 2023.

MaKenna is survived by her parents; brother, Carter James Peed; boyfriend, Dylan Rainwater; maternal grandparents, Jimmy and Sarah Rodela; paternal grandparents, Diana and John Howard; Alan Peed; maternal great grandparents, Olivia Moreno; Corben and Darlene DeKoster; paternal great grandparents, Bob and Mary Lou Moon; aunts and uncles, Kayla Rodela, David Rodela, Gary Peed; nieces and nephews, Ana Lopez, Wesley Rodela, Evelyn Workheiser; and numerous cousins. MaKenna excelled in track, mastering events like shot put, discus, and the 100 and 200. MaKenna’s interests extended beyond the track, as she was a creative and engaging YouTube content creator. She enjoyed watching and voting on American Idol. MaKenna’s simple pleasures included cuddling on the couch watching movies with her favorite junk food. She cherished summers spent swimming at her grandparents’ houses, where she could lie in the sun and absorb the warmth. The river held a special place in her heart, as she and her brother shared countless hours tubing, creating memories that would last a lifetime. MaKenna relished girl day shopping trips. Her caring nature shone brightly when she babysat. Learning how to drive was another milestone that MaKenna approached with excitement and determination, her courage pushed back her fear of learning how to drive, it was her smile that pushed back the fear of those that got into the van with her to teach her how to drive. MaKenna was a survivor, she was smart and beautiful, she was a resilient radiant child. There was nothing not to love about her, she made it easy with her beautiful smile, her laughter, and her joking personality, which always made you laugh. She was sweet, kind, courageous and gentle. She was also outgoing and tougher than she looked. It was her strength that got her through surgeries and painful procedures. She enjoyed cookouts and fight nights with family. MaKenna loved to talk to loved ones and watch her favorite podcasts. She was always eager to do the best she could in life. She loved to laugh and have a great time with people, and she always knew how to be there for people. Her kindness touched the lives of everyone she met, and her thoughtfulness was a beacon of light in the lives of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.

Obituary Preview: Joan Huber, age 87, of Toulon passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at her home.

She was born August 12, 1936 in Wyoming, IL, the daughter of Clarence and Olive Carroll. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Huber, her son, John Huber and seven of her siblings. She left behind her daughter, Julie (Gary) Bent of Toulon, three grandchildren; Nikki (Nate), Brittany (Dustin), and Nathan. Five great grandchildren, Kailey, Austin, Madison, Kyler, and Jaxon.

Joan cherished her family and loved to bake and cook for them. Most of all she loved to spoil her great grandchildren and her dog, Chloe.

Obituary Preview: The family of Monica (Norberg) Grasty, sadly announces her death Monday evening April 15, 2024 at the age of 58 from a short illness that led to liver and kidney failure.

Clarence and Sheila (Walton) Norberg welcomed a beautiful daughter on October 26, 1965. Her name was Monica Celestine. She was born with a mop of black hair. She lost the dark hair, but not that pretty face.

Monica had a complex and interesting personality. She was super smart and well read. She was sensitive and caring, but could also be fierce, strong, and brave. Bravely fighting personal battles, but never complaining. She was always there to listen and never judged anyone. Sometimes reclusive, wanting to be alone just to read a good book. Also, she dearly loved socializing with friends and family while drinking, laughing, and having a great time.

Monica attended Annawan schools, graduating in 1983. Shortly there after she moved to Texas to work. There she met her future husband and father of her two daughters. He preceded her in death in March 2016. Monica worked for five years at McDonalds until November 2023. Her favorite job was the years she bartended at the American Legion. Through working there, she made many long-lasting friendships that were an important part of her life. Monica was fortunate to be part of a big, loud family; she loved each and every one of them dearly.

Monica is survived by her two daughters, Kara Grasty of Texarkana, TX and Jaleigh Pena of Kewanee; eight grandchildren, Karleigh Jo, Melanie, Aidan, Kye, Nyla , Benjamin, Adina, and Ian; two great- grandchildren, Rowyn and Nova; her mother, Sheila Sullivan of Hooppole, IL; four brothers, Derek Norberg of Hooppole, IL, Joshua Shaw of Winston Salem, NC, Clancy (Mary Kay) Norberg of Caseyville, IL, Larry (Janae) Norberg of Carrollton, OH; a bonus brother, Jason (Erin) Gilbraith of Annawan, IL; six sisters, Dr. Desiree Norberg of Caseyville, IL, Doris Farias of Caseyville, IL, Shanda Bohannon of Hooppole, IL, Shauna Gallardo of Atkinson, IL, Kristina Farias of Caseyville, IL, and Erin (Jason) Gilbraith of Annawan, IL. Obituary Preview: Carole Nadine Busboom, 84, of Buda, died Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Kewanee Care Home. Nadine was born May 10, 1939, in Princeton, the daughter of Frederick and Letha (Winslow) Eggimann. Nadine graduated from Sheffield High School with the class of 1958. Nadine married John G. Busboom on June 3, 1972, in Buda; he survives.

Nadine is also survived by their son, Michael (Amy) Busboom, Kewanee; grandchildren, Breanne (Quentin) Bryner, Kewanee, Rayanne (Jordy Zapata-Astorga) Busboom, Kewanee, Catie Griffin, Kewanee, Sara Griffin, Kewanee; great grandchildren, Paisley Smith, Jovie Bryner, Ismael Astorga; two nephews, James (Connie) Eggimann, Jerry (Shelly) Eggimann; sister-in-law, Linda Morse. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Eggimann; sister-in-law, Eva Ruth Busboom; and aunts and uncles.

Nadine was a homemaker. She worked for Boss Glove and Kewanee Headwear prior to getting married. Nadine was a member of the Methodist Church in Buda and later the First United Church of Christ in Sheffield. Nadine loved Avon and enjoyed giving it as gifts. She also loved cats, gardening, and hot fudge sundaes. Nadine enjoyed car rides with John. Nadine also enjoyed spending time with her family. She dedicated her life to being a grandma, she never missed an event.

Obituary Preview: Michael “Mike” Lopez, 86, of Kewanee, died Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at his home. Mike was born February 23, 1938, in Los Angeles, CA, the son of Michael and Consuelo (Rico) Lopez. He attended Cathedral High School in LA and was very involved in sports. He married Carla Anderson on August 8, 1987, in Las Vegas; she preceded him in death on October 26, 1997.

Mike is survived by his children, Joseph Lopez, Kathy Schellbach, Michael Lopez; multiple grandchildren; multiple great grandchildren; stepchildren, Rodney Johnson, Wayne Johnson; sister, Carmen, her husband Trini Tostado, San Gabriel, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; and his extended family, Ron and Kay Schwarz, Jason and Shannon Schwarz and their family. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife.

Mike worked as a lineman for Southern California Edison and at Ameren. He was a member of Saint John Paul II Parish. Mike was the life of the party; he enjoyed dancing. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and bowling. Mike was a Raiders and Rams fan. He especially loved his family; he always went out of his way to make sure they were taken care of.

Obituary Preview: Janis M. Craig was welcomed home by her creator, the Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 6, 2024, in the comfort of her family. Janis May (Battersby) Craig was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 15, 1930. She was the third child of Fred and Florence (Greenwood) Battersby. She attended grade school in Berkley, Michigan until her family moved to Kewanee in 1941. In Kewanee she attended Central School and then graduated from Kewanee High School in 1947. She met the love of her life, Marvin W. Craig, in 1949 at the YMCA. They were married on August 18, 1950. They made their home on the Craig family farm in Saxon, IL. where they welcomed their only daughter and light of their lives, Denise Kay (Craig)Hodge on May 12, 1954.

Janis was a professional business woman who spent her career as a legal secretary for an area attorney, Deputy Treasurer at the Henry County Courthouse and County Circuit Clerk’s Office, and Executive Secretary for Andris Waunee Farm. She also worked for the Voter’s Registration Office and the Kewanee Driver’s License Facility. She was a member of the Kewanee Business and Professional Women’s Club where she was a past President and honored as Business Woman of the Year. She was most recently crowned Queen of Hearts at Kewanee Care on Valentine’s Day 2024. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary Post #31, and En Bon Traine Club of Saxon. She was a member and treasurer for the Friends of the Kewanee Public Library where she was named volunteer of the year in 2015. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, researching her ancestry, reading, and being involved in church and community groups. Janis was an educated, classy, strong woman who was always put together with her business suits and high heels.

Janis lived by faith, not by sight. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Kewanee, IL where she served the Lord and practiced her faith. She was the secretary of the Harry Anderson Youth Trust with the United Methodist Church, past President of Ruth Circle, Director of Vacation Bible School and Sunday School, and active in many other church committees.

Janis lived a glorious life rich in faith, family, friends, and knowledge. She lived for her family, her daughter, Denise K. Hodge of Kewanee. She cherished her grandchildren, Dena Hodge-Bates (Austin Bates) and Trafton Hodge (Natosha Hodge). She devoted her life to caring for them and teaching them life lessons through faith and history. Janis was overjoyed to be a great grandmother to her great grandchildren; Austin Kraft (Abby Masterson) of Bradford, Kelli Kraft of Kewanee, Marlee Bates of Neponset, Halie Roberson of Princeton, Corbin Hodge, Cora Hodge, and Collin Hodge, all of Kewanee. Her most recent joy was learning that she soon would be a great-great grandmother in September 2024. Janis had many nieces and nephews, Kathy (Baker)McMahon (Bill) of Naperville; Michelle (Baker)Price (Robert) of Fort Worth, TX; Dr. Robert Baker (Lynette) of Kalamazoo, MI; Brad Battersby (June) of Sarasota, FL; Brick Battersby (Monica) of Tacoma, WA. She also had many great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Florence (Greenwood) Battersby of Kewanee; husband, Marvin W. Craig of Kewanee; sister, Ilene Baker of Kewanee; brother, James Battersby of Palm Spring, CA; and brother-in-law, Robert Baker of Kewanee.

Janis leaves behind a family that cherished her knowledge, strength, faith and love. In her own words, “What really matters is loving God and the people in our lives.” She will be missed and lives on in our memories. Obituary Preview: Kent Griffin, 74, of Kewanee, died Friday, April 5, 2024, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Kent was born July 24, 1949, in Moline, IL, the son of Clifford J. “CJ” and Diane “Helen” (Gustafson) Griffin. He graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 1967. Kent married Joelynn “Jody” S. Hand on August 2, 1970; she preceded him in death on October 9, 2022.

Kent is survived by two sons, Bruce Griffin, Kewanee, Tim Griffin, Kewanee; one daughter, Virginia McCormick, East Peoria; two grandchildren, Faith (Steven) Orf, Union, MO, Hope McCormick, East Peoria; four siblings, Donovan (Judy) Griffin, Linda (Marvin) Ennis, Pat (Jim) Foster, Jan Powers; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister and brother-in-law, Chris and Don Ince; and a nephew, Chad Hansen.

Kent works as an assembler of planters and tractors at John Deere. He previously worked for Hyster, Park District, Black Hawk College, Woolworth, and Kress Corporation. Kent was a jack of all trades. During his younger years he was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. Kent also had a home Bible study with his family. He enjoyed gambling, Western movies, and Kewanee history. He was an Illini sports, Kewanee football and basketball fan. He loved spending time with a group of friends at McDonald’s in the morning. Kent enjoyed telling stories and loved a good dad joke.

Obituary Preview: Jimmy “Tru” A. Hollins, II, 31, of Kewanee, died Sunday, March 24, 2024. Jimmy was born November 13, 1992, in Galesburg, the son of Jimmy A. Hollins and Lesa K, Hayden.

Jimmy is survived by his parents, Jimmy A. Jimmy has worked as a Laborer at Tyson’s and Great Dane. He excelled at all sports. He most of all, loved basketball, soccer, football and of course bowling at state. Jimmy’s interest and love of course, didn’t stop there; Michael Jordan, Lebron James were his sports idols growing up, his favorite past time was fixing up his truck and driving around, his favorite food was tater tot casserole, and he enjoyed music, comedy shows, gaming with his friends, spending time with his animals and loved ones. His heart was more than any interest or talent he had. Jimmy’s giving, warm and loving soul will forever radiate utmost of all.

Obituary Preview: Bennett “Benny” A. Kuster, 79, of Kewanee, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024, at his home, surrounded by family. Benny was born April 10, 1944, in Kewanee, the son of Alvin and Leanore (Bennett) Kuster. Benny graduated from Kewanee High School in 1962. He married Phyllis Hepner on August 7, 1966; she preceded him in death on April 17, 1977.

Benny is survived by four children, Todd Kuster, Anchorage, AK; Chris (Dee Ann) Kuster, Geneseo; Beth (Gary) Sierens, Annawan; Nik (Ina) Kuster, Kewanee; and David (Abigail) McCall, Kewanee; ten grandchildren, Isaac, Hope, Faith, Paige, Bennett, Shaylee, Atticus, Evangeline, Holden, Oliver; and David’s children Aubree and Kash; sister, Alice (John) Salonya, Geneseo; a brother-in-law, Bill Vetos, Golden, CO; four nieces, Abigail (Josh) Brauer, Jennifer Cabral, Julie Vetos, Laura (Harley) Hepner; and Benny’s loyal dog, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis; and a sister, Rosemary Vetos.

Benny dedicated his entire life to farming; carrying a passion and commitment for livestock and the land. Additionally, he was an active member of the Henry Country Beef Producers for many years. During his life, he was a large supporter of the FFA and an FFA Alumni member. Benny was a member of the Church of Peace where he had many roles. He was a member of Brotherhood and Peacemakers while also serving as the cemetery sexton. Benny dedicated thirty-six years of service to the Kewanee Community as a volunteer firefighter. Benny enjoyed collecting antique tractors and instructing rebuilds. He then proudly displayed these tractors in many tractor shows and parades; especially the Francis Park and Hog Days’ parades. He enjoyed history of all sorts, in particular local history. Benny also enjoyed hunting and playing cards, and was viewed as a good bluffer in friendly neighborhood poker games. Above all else, Benny had countless friends and family members whom he delighted in spending time with. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: Joyce A. Malec, 72, of Chicago, died Friday, March 15, 2024, at OSF St. Luke’s Medical Center. Joyce was born February 29, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of John Albert and Edna Mildred (Smith) Rydberg.

Joyce is survived by a son, Christopher Malec, of Fargo, North Dakota; a daughter, Patty Williams, of Bolingbrook, IL; seven grandchildren; eleven siblings, thirty nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Albert Rydberg and Edna Mildred Smith; a brother, James Albert Rydberg, two brother- in- laws, Sam Hill and Paco Venegas.

Joyce attended high school in Chicago at William Rainey Harper High School, graduating in 1969. She was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. Joyce was always up for adventure and traveling. Her first home was in Honolulu, Hawaii for a short period of time and then she moved to Missoula, Montana. She worked in home-health in Missoula, Montana. Joyce was a beautiful spitfire with a quirky sense of humor. She enjoyed reading, spending time with her family, and watching annoying TikToks.

Obituary Preview: Ronald “Ron/Monk” R. Lindquist, 80, of Toulon, died Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Allure of Knox County. Ron was born July 24, 1943, in Kewanee, the son of Ray and Hazel (Ballentine) Lindquist. Ron graduated from Wethersfield High School with the class of 1961. He married Karen M. Salz in 1966, in Phoenix City, Alabama; she survives.

Ron is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and their pseudo-son, Eugene (Teresa) Costin. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Joyce Dye.

Ron was a member of the Army 173rd Airborne Brigade; he did 40 jumps during his time in Vietnam. Ron worked for Hyster for 36 years. He enjoyed running a farm, raising horses and cattle dogs. Ron also helped Karen with her show dogs. Ron was in a softball league until he was 50 years old. He especially enjoyed his fishing trip to Minnesota with Steve Dye.

Obituary Preview: Tyler J. DeMuynck, 34, of Springfield, IL (originally of Kewanee) died on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Tyler was born on November 14, 1989, to Lorie Byers (Tibbs) and Tony DeMuynck. Tyler was born and raised in Kewanee and attended Kewanee schools. Tyler received his GED in 2006. He had been living in Springfield, and thriving, since early 2023 and recently celebrated his one year anniversary working in the warehouse at Frito-Lay in Springfield.

Tyler loved life and embraced life. Tyler enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two nieces Macie and Olivia. Tyler had many friends and loved spending time with them too. He especially enjoyed playing PlayStation with his friends and family alike.You didn't have to spend more than five minutes with Tyler to see his big heart and generous soul. Tyler was one of the most positive people and always had a smile on his face. He was the best listener and gave great advice, freeof any judgment. He would help anyone in need. Tyler was in his element if he was helping someone. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

Tyler is survived by his mother, Lorie (John) Tibbs of Springfield; his father, Tony (Tracy) DeMuynck of Elmira; sister, Tabitha (Randy) Brown of Bradford; brother, Josh (Angie) Cameron of Toulon; step-sisters, Jessica, Ashley and Beth Harper; nieces, Macie and Olivia Brown; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Cremation was provided by Vancil-Murphy Cremation Services in Springfield.

Obituary Preview: Donovan “Don” K. Stout, 94, of Annawan, died Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Allure of Prophetstown. Don was born April 5, 1929, in Lafayette at the family farm, the son of Eddis and Cora (King) Stout. Don is survived by his significant other, JoAnn Cathelyn.

Don is also survived by six children, Donna (Mike) DeReu, Buda, Jeri (Danny) Baker, Prophetstown, Mike (Jodi) Stout, Havana, Terry Stout, Annawan, Bobbe (Pam) Stout, Prophetstown, Francis (Becky) Stout, Annawan; 19 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Earl Stout; and a sister, Margaret Berlin.

Don was a farmer. He also worked for the Railroad and Annawan Township. Don mowed for the Village of Annawan. He worked for Charlie Farmer/American Eagle Buildings, Inc, building pole barns. Don also worked as a tree cutter with his son, Terry for 20 years and in construction with his son, Mike for a few years. Don was an animal lover, especially horses and dogs. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and watching Western movies. Don also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mowing yards. He especially enjoyed the annual family fishing trip to Canada from 1980 – 2019.

Michelle was born June 21, 1963, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Larry and Alta Anne (Brown) Wisenburg. Michelle married Rusly Gunawan on December 14, 1985, in Clarkstown, GA; he survives.

Michelle is also survived by three children, Alta Lauren (Niki) Gunawan, VA, Chris (Cassie) Gunawan, GA, Eva (Matthew Folkenroth) Gunawan, WI; two grandchildren, Christopher and Zoey Gunawan, GA; half-sister, Stacy McCrosky, IL; brother, Steven (Carol) Wisenburg, GA; niece and nephew, Tish Thayer and William Wisenburg. She was preceded in death by her dad, Larry.

Michelle worked as a nurse for Good Samaritan, Geneseo. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Zion Lutheran Church. Michelle enjoyed reading, cooking and traveling. Michelle enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren grow up.

Obituary Preview: Masyn D. Kopp, was born silently in the arms of the angels on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Genesis Medical Center, Silvis. He weighed 6 lbs 12 oz and was 22 inches long. Masyn experienced hugs and kisses from his family and being told “I love you” countless times.

Masyn is deeply loved and cherished by his mommy and daddy, Brandon and Tricia Kopp; big brother, Bentley Matuszyk; two big sisters, Marlee Kopp and Bella Kopp; grandparents, Patricia Galli, Fred and Debbie Kopp; great grandma, Judy Kopp; aunts and uncles, Chase Echelberger, Tate Echelberger, Chandra (Dalton) Kuffel, Lorelei (Greg) Ohlson, Joshua Kopp. He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Richard Galli, step grandpa, Hector Interial; and an uncle, William Kelly.

Obituary Preview: Steven “Steve” Stivers, 65, of Kewanee, died Thursday, February 29, 2024, at his home. Steve was born November 4, 1958, in Kewanee, the son of Charles M. and Budelia “Bud” (Haddad) Stivers.

Steve is survived by his cousins, Gregg Larson, and Teri (Mats) Jonmarker, all of Kewanee; Jeanne DeMorest, Fort Collins, CO, and Kevin DeMorest, Neenah, WI.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; cousin, David DeMorest; aunts, Alice Haddad, Edna (Dr. Hugh) DeMorest, and Olga (Lawrence) Larson.

Steve graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 1976. He attended technical college in Louisville Kentucky. Steve worked for his dad at Stiver’s and Sons until his dad, Charles, retired. Steve then owned and operated Steve’s Radiator for 50+ years. Steve enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan.

Obituary Preview: Philip Hackman Good (89) was called home on February 20th, 2024, after living an extraordinary life.

Phil is preceded in death by his brother, James Good, and his parents, Everett Oliver Good and Gladys Hackman Good. He is survived by the love of his life, Mary Heberer Good, his brother, David (Rosemary) Good, his four children: John Good, Jean (Reed) Brickell, Mary Anne (Bob) Dybdal, and Phil (Kaleigh) Good Jr., and his nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Phil is remembered as a family man above all else, a best friend, an incredible husband, a #1 father, and an adored Papa. He was kindhearted, gentle, and charismatic, while always showing strength and perseverance. A man full of love, spirit, and integrity, he was an inspiring leader and exceptional mentor to many.

Phil was born and raised in Kewanee, Illinois. After graduating from Kewanee High School in 1952, he headed west with his best friend and cousin, John Stewart, to attend Colorado College where he graduated with an economics degree. Phil was a cadet in the ROTC while at college and was later commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve. Phil was a member of Company C since its establishment in Kewanee and was honorably discharged in 1964 with the rank of Captain and Commander of Company C, 338th Regiment, 85th Division, of U.S. Army Reserve.

Phil came from a long line of retailing and furniture selling tracing back to his grandfather, Elmer Samuel (“E.S.” Good), who opened Good’s in 1895. After college graduation, Phil joined his father Everett in the fledgling little furniture store. Phil’s challenge was to take the solid and well-respected furniture store that had been nurtured by E.S. and Everett to the next level. But to where exactly? Phil’s answers to this question played out over the next several decades and illustrated his entrepreneurial genius, true grit, and boundless passion for simply moving the ball forward.

With Phil's big dreams and persistence, he ran Good’s first TV commercial in the Quad Cities in 1971. Phil later retold the story saying his dad was livid as he ran it against his better judgment, reportedly spending a year's worth of the ad budget historically used for newspaper. To Phil's luck, it worked, and the company expanded. As other businesses left downtown Kewanee, Phil acquired buildings and lovingly renovated them back to their glory days with his own twists and created a furniture destination unlike any other. He thrived on change and disrupting the status quo and was most at home when the dust was flying from renovations. By the early 2000s, he had turned the store into a sprawling quarter million-foot furniture destination spanning three city blocks serving the entire Midwest.

Phil was always a staunch advocate for the rebirth of Kewanee. Instead of opening other locations at the recommendations of others in the industry, he invested everything he could in Kewanee, his home. His favorite philanthropic efforts were associated with Kewanee education. Phil was active in the community serving on many boards over his lifetime, including the Library Board, Illinois State Library Board, Kewanee Rotary, Kewanee Hospital Board, President of Kewanee Credit Bureau Board, Union Federal Savings and Loan Board, among others.

He was awarded Outstanding Citizen of the Year, Illinois Retailer of the Year, Retailer of the 21st Century, Honorary Boilermaker 2007, was given the Key to the City, and his high school football team was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. He also received many industry awards and accolades for his innovation in the furniture industry.

In his early days, he was a scratch golfer, water skiing speed demon, and thrived skiing black diamonds in Colorado.He was well known for rooting for the underdog, no matter what the sport. And yes… his favorite underdogs were the Cubs and Bears.

For many years, Phil was an avid runner. No amount of rain, wind, brutal cold, or snow could stop his early morning routine of running 3-5 miles daily, before heading into the store.

He loved reading and sunny days and caught every sunset he possibly could. Travel and adventure were always a high priority and if the travel could include the ocean or mountains, all the better.

With the passage of Phil, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest. His love for life didn't come to an end with his passing. Instead, his life will live on through his loved ones who will continue to honor his true zest for living. Phil always lived life in the moment, he was truly one-of-a-kind.

We invite friends and family to toast Phil over a glass of good red in the company of their loved ones. If a good red isn’t calling, a memorial donation in honor of Phil can be made to the Kewanee Schools Foundation. A private ceremony with military honors will be held at a future date.

Obituary Preview: Mary L. Montooth, 76, of Kewanee, died Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Allure of Lake Storey, Galesburg. Mary was born November 28, 1947, in Morrison, IL, the daughter of Jack and Leona (Peterson) Smith. Mary attended Wethersfield High School. Mary married Paul A. Montooth on September 22, 1972, in Elmira, IL; he preceded her in death on September 29, 2010.

Mary is survived by two children, Robert (Peggy) Montooth, Little York, IL, Jaclyn (John) Holmes, Kewanee; and five grandchildren, Dylan and Brandon Montooth, Ethan, Hanna, and John Ryelee Holmes. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Tyler Montooth; and a brother, Bob Smith.

Mary worked as an assistant manager for Payless Shoes, she previously worked for Shop-N-Go and Sandy’s. Mary enjoyed crafting and crocheting. Family was Mary’s pride and joy, especially her grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: Lt. Colonel Marvin Hamilton, USAF, Ret. traded his pilot’s wings for angel wings Tuesday, February 6, 2024. Marvin was born January 16, 1925, to Dale and Effie Hamilton of Kewanee, Illinois. He was preceded by Phyllis, his loving wife of 67 years, his parents, sisters; Margaret, Martha, Mildred, Marilyn, and Kathryn, and brothers; Milton, Dale Jr., and Kenneth and son-in-law, Michael Crockett.

He is survived by his brother, Thomas D. (Eloise) of San Bernardino, CA. His children Patricia Crockett, Mont Belvieu, TX, Deborah Simmons (Bill), Fairhope, AL, and Steven Hamilton, Normal, IL. Three grandchildren Stephanie Luna (Tim), Pearland, TX, Matthew Heller (Crystal), Mont Belvieu, TX and Rebecca Garrett, Fairhope, AL. Ten great-grandchildren Emily Robertson (Christopher), Elana and Jordan Luna, Pearland, TX, Michael and Kacie Heller, Mont Belvieu, TX, William, Kayson, Houston, Sadie, and Aiden Garrett, Fairhope, AL and one great-great-grandson Larsen Robertson, Pearland, TX as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Marvin was a 1942 graduate of Wethersfield High School.He attended Western University in Illinois before he enlisted in the Army Air Corp, which later became the United States Air Force in 1947. Education was important to him and he worked diligently throughout his career taking college classes wherever he was stationed. He reached his goal in 1972 when he graduated from the University of Nebraska-Omaha with his BS degree in Business.

Marvin’s remarkable career began during World War II with basic training at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, MO. While he was there, President Roosevelt inspected the troops, a show of recognition and appreciation for their future service and sacrifice. He graduated fighter pilot training in Selma, AL. Soon after, he flew the new B-25 aircraft to Burma via South America. He flew the famous “Hump” of the Himalayan mountains in C-47s to ferry supplies to China. Later, he flew all models of aircraft from Kunming to Shanghai. He was also the pilot for the Commanding General assisting with the rebuilding of China.

Lt. Hamilton served with the 13th Bomb Squadron in Korea. He flew night intruder missions in B-26s where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for his meritorious service in combat.

After Korea, he served as an instructor pilot at Langley AFB, VA. before his transfer to England.In England, he flew the B-45, the first jet aircraft to carry nuclear weapons.

Captain Hamilton was stationed at Schilling AFB, KS where he flew B-47s during the Cold War. Major Hamilton was assigned to Headquarters 15th Air Force, March AFB, CA serving as Chief of the Alert Management Division, 15th AF. Promoted to Lt. Col., he was transferred to Strategic Air Command (SAC) Headquarters, Offutt AFB, NE. During his time at Offutt he worked with national security planning, was a staff member on the Flying Command Post, and served as Gen. Jimmy Doolittle’s pilot.

While in Vietnam, 1971, he was Commander of the 6250th Combat Support Squadron and Assistant Chief of Staff 7th Air Force. His last assignment was Whiteman AFB, MO as base Chief of Staff. Throughout his long and distinguished career, he was also awarded the Bronze Star, four Air Medals and various Air Commendations.

He was a command pilot with over 6,700 flying hours in over 21 different aircraft, his favorite being the P-51 Mustang. After retiring in 1974, he and Phyllis built their dream home on the golf course in Gulf Shores, AL. They traveled the country visiting friends, family and seeking new adventures. After moving back to Illinois, they spent winters at the FAM Camp, MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL., where they made many new and special friendships and enjoyed great golf. A self-taught golfer, he was the first American to win the local English Cup in Peterborough, England. He also scored several holes in one. Marvin loved, fishing, hunting, gardening, and the outdoors. In his later years, he enjoyed the summer concerts in Danvers and Peoria, IL. He was a member of the Order ofDaedalians Military Pilots Association, Retired Officers Association, Golf Volunteers at MacDill AFB, the McLean County Seniors Golf League, the Front Porch Golfers in Bloomington and the Literary Center of Normal, IL.

Marvin’s greatest joy was his family. He relished the times he could spend with his grandchildren and later his great and great-great grandchildren. They will always cherish the very special memories of those precious times.
