Penn State football recruiting: Where Nittany Lions recruits rank in the newest 247Sports rankings (2024)

STATE COLLEGE —The Penn State Class of 2022 slipped from its perch atop the national rankings in the past month or so as some other high-profile programs began to kick into gear to round out their classes. James Franklin and the Nittany Lions used their big summer to essentially complete their class ahead of the 2021 season.

Penn State, though, is still on track to finish with one of the top classes in this cycle, and it could be a potentially transformative one for the program. And on Wednesday, 247Sports updated its house rankings — the Top247 — and a couple Penn State commitments occupy prominent spots in the newest rankings.

Here’s a look at where Penn State’s commits rank in the updated Top247:

Drew Allar, QB, Medina (Ohio)

  • Rating: 5 stars
  • National: No. 12
  • Position: No. 1
  • State: No. 2

Allar has proved to be one of the biggest movers in the cycle, and he earned the coveted fifth star from 247Sports in the newest rankings update. With former No. 1 overall recruit reclassifying to enroll early at Ohio State, Allar becomes the No. 1 quarterback in the nation. The Nittany Lions appear to have their quarterback of the future.

Nicholas Singleton, RB, Governor Mifflin

  • Rating: 4 stars
  • National: No. 19
  • Position: No. 1
  • State: No. 1

Singleton has been the top-ranked running back in the 247Sports rankings for a little while now, but he moves into the top 20 nationally, and by the time National Signing Day rolls around, he’s in position to earn a fifth star. Penn State also reeling in the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania doesn’t hurt, either.

Kaden Saunders, WR, Westerville South (Ohio)

  • Rating: 4 stars
  • National: No. 89
  • Position: No. 13
  • State: No. 4

Saunders was the first commitment in the Class of 2022, and he leads a deep and intriguing group of wide receivers. He’s a dynamic athlete who can make things happen with the ball in his hands.

Dani Dennis-Sutton, DL, McDonogh (Md.)

  • Rating: 4 stars
  • National: No. 91
  • Position: No. 12
  • State: No. 1

Rivals ranks Dennis-Sutton as a five-star recruit, and he’s in the top 50 of the 247Sports composite rankings. He’s lower in the Top247, but he still ranks as the No. 1 player in Maryland, which continues to be fertile recruiting territory for Franklin and company.

Drew Shelton, OT, Downingtown West

  • Rating: 4 stars
  • National: No. 141
  • Position: No. 15
  • State: No. 4

Shelton held steady in the fold and reaffirmed his commitment earlier this summer. Penn State could have gone deeper on the offensive line in this class, but Shelton is a quality headliner.

Cam Miller, CB, Trinity Christian Academy (Fla.)

  • Rating: 4 stars
  • National: No. 143
  • Position: No. 21
  • State: No. 18

Miller leads a deep group of defensive backs in the class, and he seems to fit the template of athletic, long players who could fit at a couple different positions in the secondary.

Kaytron Allen, RB, IMG Academy (Fla.)

  • Rating: 4 stars
  • National: No. 151
  • Position: No. 13
  • State: No. 19

Allen and Singleton give Penn State a quality running back duo in the class. Allen is a big-time bruiser who put up some impressive numbers early in the season for IMG Academy. Given his time at the Florida power, Allen should arrive in State College ready for the next level.

Anthony Ivey, WR, Manheim Township

  • Rating: 4 stars
  • National: No. 157
  • Position: No. 26
  • State: No. 5

Ivey is a smooth player who continues to be solid during his career at Manheim Township. He gives Penn State commitments from three of the top five players in Pennsylvania in the class.

Mehki Flowers, ATH, CD East

  • Rating: 4 stars
  • National: No. 219
  • Position: No. 10
  • State: No. 7

Flowers is a dynamic playmaker as both a wide receiver and a safety, and it remains to be seen what side of the ball he’ll play at the next level. But either way, Flowers has talent to make an impact no matter where he lands, and he earns the “athlete” tag from 247Sports.
