Five of the top 10 states with the worst drivers are in the South, including Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kentucky and South Carolina. Seven of the top 10 states with the best drivers are in the East Coast area, including Washington, D.C., Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York and Rhode Island.
According to a new 'WalletHub' study, the city ranked #1 out of 100 cities as the easiest to drive in based on parking, gas prices and safety.
New Jersey is the safest state for drivers, with fewer fatal accidents and fewer fatalities from speeding and impaired driving. Idaho experienced the most significant increase in car accident fatalities at 27%, while Wyoming experienced the largest decrease in fatalities at -13%.

Miles driven per person
Per capita VMT in 2021 was lowest in New York, Rhode Island, Hawaii and Washington state, ranging from 5,400 to 7,500 miles per person. The state with the most driving on a per capita basis in 2021 was Wyoming, with 19,150 miles per person, followed by Alabama, Mississippi and Missouri.
What is the hardest state to get your license in?

Besides being the worst in the U.S. for traffic, Chicago ranked No. 2 in the world, behind London. London, Paris, Bogota (Colombia), Palermo, and Monterrey (Mexico) were the top five cities outside the U.S. and Canada with the highest number of delays in 2022, according to Inrix.
The study also looked at stoplight performance on the statewide level. Nebraska, Wyoming, Alaska, Colorado, and North Carolina scored highest, while Massachusetts, Main, Nevada, New Hampshire and Rhode Island did worst.
