Why are libertarians against gun control?
This article contends that handgun controls would give the police and military a monopoly on arms, deprive minority groups of a needed means of protection, and fail to reduce violent crime.
Though gun control is not strictly a partisan issue, there is generally more support for gun control legislation in the Democratic Party than in the Republican Party. The Libertarian Party, whose campaign platforms favor limited government regulation, is outspokenly against gun control.
Right-libertarians are also criticised for ignoring observation and historical fact and instead focusing on an abstract ideal. Imperfection is not accounted for and they are axiomatically opposed to government initiatives to counter the effects of climate change.
